Cocker Spaniels - Breeders - Common Activities

Cocker Spaniels are active dogs that can be used in a variety of activities. Titles that Cockers get during shows, field trials, and other canine sports add much to the price of the dog and consequently to its future progeny. Professional breeders strive to breed only from best champion bloodlines. Even though a non-titled dog can produce nice puppies with lovely appearance and personalities, breeding from champion bloodlines increases the chance of Cockers to get closer to the ideal picture of a purebred dog expressed in the standard.

English Cocker Spaniels are bred mostly for their original functions. They are used in hunting and field trials and turn out to be winners rather often. Field trials are meant to measure a Cocker's ability to hunt, flush, and retrieve game. The dream of all owners who show their Cockers in field trials is the title called F. C., which means "Field Champion."

American Cockers are also doing well in field trials. Yet, conformation seems to be their favorite activities. The medium-sized coat that is silky in texture attracts the attention of the public and makes the Cocker Spaniel a very beautiful dog.

Agility is the Cocker's hobbyhorse. These dogs have all the qualities needed to perform in this sort of sport. They are alert, merry, obedient, and seem to always enjoy participating in agility. The diversity of titles Cockers earn in agility varies from Novice Agility (NA) to Master Agility Excellent (MX).

Whichever activities Cockers participate in, they always make wonderful pets. Performance dogs and dogs used in hunting are equally devoted to their owners and enjoy companionship. That is perhaps one of the most highly valued traits of Cocker Spaniels.
